of the State Bar of Texas

The 2015 Texas Native American Law Conference is scheduled for Friday, January 30, 2015 at the Texas Law Center, 1414 Colorado Street, Austin, Texas.

The 2015 Conference will present topics of current interest in Native American Law, including “Eagles, Feathers and Spiritual Birds: Native American Spirituality and the Law” and the Indian Child Welfare Act. Other topics of interest will be addressed as well.

The Conference will feature Bill Voelker and Troy, the Co-Directors of Sia, the Comanche Nation Ethno-Ornithological Initiative, and their Spiritual Birds, Nuepi, a male Golden Eagle, and Wakiya, a White Medicine Bird (a rare white red-tailed hawk revered by the Comanche and other Native Americans).

The Conference will also include presentations by the Chickasaw Nation Stomp Dance Troupe, Chickasaw flutist Jesse Lindsey and the Eagle Point Singers, as part of the Section’s traditional Honoring Ceremony, with Native American singing, dancing and drumming.

This year, a special event is planned - a Homecoming of the members of the Section, particularly the Founders and Leaders of the Section. Special recognition will be given to those who have contributed to the creation and success of the Section over the past 21 years.

The public is welcome and everyone is invited to the Homecoming and Honoring Ceremonies free of charge. These events commence at 11:30 a.m.
